ope to unify the digital radio market for Europe by publishing of a set of minimum features & functions for all digital radio receivers-- the new WorldDMB Digital Radio Receiver Profiles. Survey Says Consumers Prefer Radio
Radio beats CD and MP3s when it comes to music listening, says a survey in USA by Rasmussen Reports. And that has BIG implications for the future of digital radio.

Most American adults (42%) prefer to turn on their radios to listen to music. That beats the 25% who prefer to use a CD player and 14% who like MP3 players.
Nearly 10% turn to satellite radio while 5% listen via computer and a teeny-weeny 1% use a tape deck (and exactly who are these Luddites with tape? Better not be 8-track.)
Nearly two-thirds of Americans listen to music nearly every day, according to the report.
We need these types of surveys in Europe. Imagine the implications as we consider how the EBU and WorldDMB have just created a Europe-wide standard for digital radio receivers.
In the US, there are now more than 1750 HD Radio stations, more than 60 SKUs for HD Radio receivers available at 12,000 retail outlets. Automakers offer HD Radio as factory or dealer options with 14 brands across 82 models. And price points tempt the mass market with receivers for less than $100 (and even one for $49 after rebate.)
The new CEO of Reciva in UK, Phil Riley, says his appointment signals the beginning of rapid growth for Reciva into a market for tens of millions of units within five years.
Reciva’s software sits at the heart of radios produced by brands such as Roberts. Internet radios using their software database allow listeners to receive 13,000 radio stations from 150 countries as well as a library of 55,000 podcasts.
Riley says sales DAB in the UK rose from 50,000 sets in homes in 2003 to more than 7m today.
“Internet radio works on a single standard, so this is a world market, where there are 200m radio sets sold each year and that is the size of the potential market...”
